SSDI Payment Schedule Overview
The Social Security Administration (SSA) distributes disability payments according to a schedule that depends on your birth date. This staggered approach allows the SSA to efficiently manage fund distribution.
Here’s how the payment schedule works:
- Second Wednesday of the Month: If your birthday falls between the 1st and 10th of your birth month, your SSDI payment will be deposited on the second Wednesday of each month.
- Third Wednesday of the Month: If your birthday is between the 11th and 20th, your payment will be deposited on the third Wednesday of each month.
- Fourth Wednesday of the Month: If your birthday falls between the 21st and 31st, you’ll receive your payment on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
For example, in September 2024, SSDI payments will be issued as follows:
- September 11: For birthdays from the 1st to the 10th.
- September 18: For birthdays from the 11th to the 20th.
- September 25: For birthdays from the 21st to the 31st.
If you began receiving SSDI benefits before May 1997, your payment date is different. You can expect your payment on the 3rd of each month, regardless of your birth date.

What to Do If Your Payment Is Late
SSDI payments are typically deposited at 12:01 a.m. on your scheduled payment date. If your payment doesn’t arrive as expected, here’s what you can do:
Check with Your Bank: Delays can sometimes occur due to issues on the bank’s end, so it’s a good idea to contact them first.
Contact the SSA: If your bank isn’t experiencing any issues, you can reach out to the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213.
